USP College in Benfleet, Essex, has made investments in cutting-edge technology and resources to ensure students gain the skills they need for successful career progression. An upgrade to their welding training facilities meant that we were approached to design and install a welding bay system, through our distributor, Elmdale Welding and Engineering Supplies.
The requirement was for the design and fit of 9 welding bays, suspended from an overhead Unistrut system. This had to be designed around an existing extraction system in a confined space with awkward access.
Talk to us about baysIn the design of the system, we utilised the existing I-beams to support the Unistrut. We positioned the Unistrut inside the I-beams or just below them, creating a criss-cross support system that was largely hidden within the ceiling. Some sections were wall-mounted, depending on the position of the extraction pipes. As there were no joists available directly above the bays, we used the existing I-beams to create a false steel ceiling to support the system.
